The garden was on a steep hill and the customer wanted me to terrace the gardens. We put in dry stone walling to retain the soil and flagging next to it.

This is a typical example of flagging Indian stone
Preparation - We removed old flag stones and soil from the area. We then put the crusher lime stone down to how much is required then it is whackered down using a whacker plate. photo
Laying of the Indian stone - A mix of building sand and gravel is mixed called ballis, we then add cement to the mix at a ratio of 4:1. The flags are layed with concrete. This provides a footing for the pointing mix and will protect it from frost and ground movement. photo
Finishing touches - The concrete provides a good foundation for the pointing so it will never sink, push through or crumble. photo

Water feature
All of our water features are custom made and we will always agree with the customer what they would like and we will keep them informed at every stage and make sure all parties are happy. We find a suitable venue for the water feature. We map out the shape of the water feature with a rope and then plan out the shape by creating a template. From this we dig the hole. With the soil that is dug out we use this to create the waterfall. Then the waterfall shape is moulded by hand. photo
We place sand down as a base and then a rubber sheet is fitted to the area. We then put dry stone wall around or rockery stone. We then connect an electric pump. From there we go onto the final stages of how the water feature will look, you have to have a very good imagination. photo

Turfing
We normally turf if a garden has been damaged by moss or had new land drains put in or if the customer requires a new lawn. The turf is cut from local fields or is ordered from a specialist company. The area is rotavated then root zone chemical is applied then a chemical base top soil. photo
